Live

What I bring into a room

A handpan is a lot of overtones held in one piece of steel. Struck gently it sounds less like percussion than like a room breathing. I found that sound in 2023, while still writing software for a living. I have not put the instrument down since.

SOLO

Solo concert

One player, several instruments, no backing track. Written pieces alongside things that only exist in that room on that night. Works unamplified in a small hall, a church, a listening room, a living room.

60 minutes, or two sets of 40 · seated audience
MASTERCLASS

Sounds of Feeling

An afternoon of playing followed by an evening concert. Open to every level, including people who have never touched a handpan. Instruments provided.

Afternoon and evening · up to 14 players
DUO

Vemra

A duo with my partner Véra. Voice above handpan. Concerts, singing circles, sound journeys for yoga studios, retreats, wellbeing events. Quieter than the solo set, more space in it. More on the Vemra page.

45 to 75 minutes · two performers
SOUND JOURNEY

Sound journey

The room lies down. I play. Nothing is asked of anyone for an hour. I travel to your studio, retreat or event. One to one sessions happen at my own studio.

About

Who is playing

Emre Veçhi with a copper handpan among stones and tall grasses

I grew up in North Cyprus. I have lived in the Netherlands for five years. I found the handpan in 2023 while working as a software engineer, a job I was good at without ever really wanting it. In 2024 I started VeChi Sound. Now I teach, I sell instruments I have played myself first, I run the studio in Utrecht, mostly I perform.

I do not play from a method. What I have is a lot of hours on steel, an ear for where a room is holding its breath and a belief that music lands harder when nobody on stage is trying to be correct.

Emre Veçhi artist logo: a turtle with the seed of life as its shell

The turtle carries its home on its back. The shell is the seed of life, seven circles, the pattern every handpan scale is built from. Slow, steady, always arriving.
